THE RISE IN PREVALENCE OF GAMBLING AND OTHER INFORMATION BEHAVIOURAL ADDICTIONS. CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES

Online conference on: “THE RISE IN PREVALENCE OF GAMBLING AND OTHER INFORMATION BEHAVIOURAL ADDICTIONS. CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES” was held on 2 July 2022 on the IASGA platform.

During the conference, participants from around the world shared their clinical experiences and research findings on the following issues:

  • How the use of manipulative technologies in gaming and advertising is leading to an increase in informational, behavioural addictions among users of different age categories worldwide
  • Legalisation due to governments’ financial interest in developing the gambling industry is a factor in the increasing prevalence of gambling addiction
  • Is the gambling industry profitable? Hundreds of billions of dollars in damages to the world economy from gambling
  • The development and legalisation of online gambling and sports betting in particular, as a reason for the exponential increase in problems and pathological gamblers in different countries.

The participants also presented clinical cases from their practice and discussed the most relevant topics for further research.
